Qualities of a Good Teacher

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Good TeacherTeachers are the guiding force and helps students to achieve their goals in life. Teaching is a form of art which cannot be learned by everyone. There are various ways of teaching and every individual have their own method. Usually students like those teachers who adopt ways in which learning is more like a fun rather than learning some boring subject. Teaching needs three qualities. Knowledge is the first. The ability to pass it on to others, what we usually call communication skill, is the next. Aptitude is the third. Which quality of a teacher is tested in the so-called eligibility tests? Is it the first one? That is unbelievable.

Subjects taught by great teachers seem to have a story-like quality to them and they have the ability to perceive life in a different way and to explain the subject in a different way. They rarely need to use discipline to keep the class under control. A good teacher will always find his classroom in full attendance. Usually many students find ways to skip classes but if there is a good teacher then he will definitely make it to the classroom. Teacher student relation is not limited to the classroom only but goes much beyond. Good teachers go out of their way to help their students in their academic career as well as give advice and solve their problems. They don’t mind spending some time with the students after the class.

Good teachers always have great patience and don’t mind helping students till they have grasped the topic completely. Most of those who are in the teaching profession should have a positive mental attitude and should be a role model for their students. The teachers should constantly motivate their students. They should never say anything negative about any student in front of the class. Always the brighter side of any student should be highlighted more to bring in more success from them.

Not all the students are the same. Some are brighter and some are not so good in studies. Its here that the quality of a good teacher is tested. Teachers should have the ability to teach such students in a manner which will help weak students to improve their career graph. Good teachers tend to find that the caring that goes into their teaching feels a lot like the caring that goes into parenting. They know that their students, like their own children, have insecurities and problems.
