Drugs Addiction Tarnishes Young Generation

Be it a modern society or the traditional one, drugs will always deteriorate the standards, norms and values and culture of every society. Children are regarded as the hope of tomorrow, however when drugs directly attack the hope, the whole society is at stake.

The percentage of children involved in drugs intake is rising day by day. According to the survey made by the National Centre on Addiction and substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University, the percentage of middle school students infected by drugs have raised to 28% while those of high school students have raised to 62%.

Causes of Drug addiction

Drugs addiction can be caused due to en number of things loneliness, unhappiness, depression, divorced parents, mounting route towards crime, major illness or sometimes death in the family. However the prime causes are genetic make-up, peer pressure and personality. Disease like diabetics have hereditary background, drugs too have hereditary background. If any of the parent has a history of drug addiction, chances of child involving in drug addiction increases. Peer pressure and personality go hand in hand. It is said that ‘bad company corrupts good character’ similarly peer pressure forces the person into drug addiction however I feel a person with a strong personality can resist to the evil peer pressure.
